As the construction industry embarks on a crucial green transformation, the Strategic Network for Sustainable Construction will continue its mission with the backing of new funding. This financial support, provided by Grundejernes Investeringsfond (GI) and Realdania, will empower the network to drive sustainable solutions until August 2026.
Per Kvols Heiselberg, Deputy Head of Department for Research at BUILD and coordinator of the network's data, LCA, and documentation theme group, expressed his enthusiasm:
"We are thrilled to extend our collaboration with industry partners in pursuit of sustainable construction solutions. BUILD plays a pivotal role in the construction value chain, and we are committed to leveraging our expertise and perspectives to contribute to this critical endeavor."
Both GI and Realdania have pledged their support to the network's endeavors. Søren Meyer, Development Manager at GI, underscored the significance of fostering a platform for dialogue and analysis:
"Sustainability presents a multifaceted challenge for building owners and the construction industry, demanding innovative solutions that minimize environmental impact, conserve resources, and align with economic viability. Establishing a dedicated forum for industry-wide discussions, analysis, and ideation is paramount. GI is proud to support the Strategic Network for Sustainable Construction for another two years."
Lennie Clausen, Program Manager at Realdania, views the network as a catalyst for groundbreaking ideas:
"We recognize the Strategic Network's instrumental role in fostering novel approaches to sustainable construction, particularly in aligning the value chain's components. The network's cross-industry support is instrumental in strengthening collaboration and understanding among stakeholders as we navigate the challenges of the construction industry's green transition and capitalize on synergies across diverse initiatives."
Moving forward, the network will continue to prioritize and address the themes and topics deemed most critical for achieving a sustainable transformation within the construction and infrastructure sectors. This focus will build upon the network's past accomplishments, recommendations from the Construction Industry Think Tank for Sustainability, the updated national strategy for sustainable construction, and the Social and Housing Ministry's recently unveiled strategy for developing a holistic building code by 2030.
About the Strategic Network
The Strategic Network for Sustainable Construction serves as the construction and infrastructure industry's cross-sectoral network, encompassing organizations, construction professionals, associated research and educational institutions, GTS institutes, and the insurance sector. The network collaborates closely with the Social and Housing Ministry and the Coordinating Committee for Sustainable Construction, ensuring alignment with the national strategy for sustainable construction implementation.
Comprising representatives from 35 diverse organizations and companies, the network boasts a collective of up to 120 industry experts, researchers, and specialists engaged in various theme groups. These groups delve into topics such as knowledge and skills development, data, and documentation, building regulations and building case processing, and innovative circular business models. The theme groups generate valuable insights and knowledge that inform the development of both framework conditions and tangible construction projects.
Since its inception in 2022, the Strategic Network has made significant contributions, including delivering analyses and input for new climate requirements in new construction and renovation projects, conducting a dilemma study on the building regulations in relation to sustainability, and examining municipalities' practices in incorporating sustainability considerations into local plans.
