SBi instructions are developed by BUILD, the Institute for the Built Environment at Aalborg University, which ensures they are based on a neutral foundation of research and experience-based knowledge. In the future, BUILD will continue to be responsible for online distribution at www.anvisninger.dk, while Academic Press will take over all physical distribution of books.
"The instructions are a cornerstone in the Danish construction industry. A recent study from the Technological Institute, DTU, and AAU shows that SBi instructions are the most well-known and used source of technical building knowledge on par with the Building Regulations. Conversely, our own data shows that the instructions should reach even further into the industry if we really want to raise the quality of construction. Therefore, we are starting strategic partnerships with partners who can help the instructions do just that. Here, Academic Press, as part of Lindhardt and Ringhof and Egmont, is an extremely strong partner," says Kristoffer Soelberg, Head of Innovation and Impact at BUILD – Institute for Built Environment.
Academic Press has been publishing professional and educational books for professionals, educators, and students since 1962. Academic Press is part of Lindhardt and Ringhof Education, which also houses Alinea, Praxis, and Moxis, which are leaders in the distribution of educational materials and online learning platforms.
"We are excited to welcome BUILD and SBi instructions to Academic Press," says Vibeke Nørgaard, Publishing Director at Academic Press. "This will expand the publisher's portfolio in construction technology, where we will initially improve the entire production and distribution of physical SBi instructions. We expect to provide better service to both customers and retailers and to extend the reach of SBi instructions even further in collaboration with BUILD. Additionally, SBi instructions will enter one of Denmark's largest and leading educational publishing houses, which also presents entirely new opportunities."
The partnership began in early 2024 and initially focuses on the production and distribution of physical books, which can now be purchased through Academic Press at https://www.akademisk.dk/sbi-anvisning-0. BUILD will continue to handle online distribution at www.anvisninger.dk.
